Templates for APA and MLA papers

• Format for electronic resources.  This link above is to the Lydia M. Olsen Library website of the University of Northern Michigan.  Use it for explanations and examples of online articles and other materials, as well as print resources.  Scroll down the page to the relevant links.
• Download an NVIT Word template for APA--6th ed. papers.   Cut and paste your information into this template to create an APA formatted paper. 
• Download a Word template for MLA papers, from Wright State University.  J. Walker has provided a web help document for setting up your Word 2007 by yourself.
• Other templates are also available for MLA and APA thanks to Wright State University.  Open these documents, then SAVE them to your hard drive and locate them using Word.  Replace the material given with your own, but use the format provided in the template.
• Build Citations using Landmark's Citation Machine.  Select the Print or Electronic resource type that you want to cite, fill in the data fields, and an APA and MLA citations will appear, with both "in-text" and "reference list" citations.  Minor errors still might be present, so check the results carefully.

APA (American Psychological Association)

The APA has issued an article, APA Style Guide to Electronic References.  It is available from the NVIT library. Since this has to be purchased, the major recommendations for common formats have been provided in an article summary.  See also the following but please note that the information in most is not current.

• APA Tutorial.  Within the tutorial, you will find examples of APA papers, examples of references and other useful information.
• Landmark's Citation Machine.
• APA Style Essentials by Douglas Degelman, Ph.D., and Martin Lorenzo Harris, Ph.D.  A 6th Edition guide that has links to the key sections of a paper. 
• The Online Writing Lab at Purdue is a cite often recommended by instructors.

MLA (Modern Languages Association)

• Landmark's Citation Machine. 
• Humanities Documenting Sources gives a short and useful guide to MLA written by Diana Hacker, author of many handbooks and textbooks.
• The University of Southern Mississippi has an MLA tutorial.
• Using Modern Language Association (MLA) Format from the Online Writing Lab at Purdue.
